In what ways could Bigger Thomas avoid Mrs. Dalton and not have killed Mary?

In my opinoin I think Bigger could've aviod Mrs. Dalton and not have killed Mary, by doing two simply thing. the first think Bigger could have done to avoid Mrs Dalton when she walk in Mary room was to hid under the bed, and stay their quiet, until Mrs Dalton leave the room. After that he colud have and find his way to his room before anybody notice.
